Butterfly Song for a Mantis

By Leith Plunkett

 He believes in love blindly

like a child

innocent, pure

Her lullaby now a whisper

barely heard over his own pulse

His heart

cold as steel

tempered, brittle

Autumn falling from his eyes

there

is

something

wrong

with the taste of his tears
