He was Right

By Miztaken4beauty

Emotional barriers had become her forte,
Distance her best friend.
She thought she was unwanted.
She wanted it to just end.

So her heart was off limits,
to even herself.
And all her emotions,
gathered dust on the shelf.

You see this girl was lonely,
She was always left behind.
It was her own fault,
- or so she resigned.

She saw all her faults,
and thought that was why.
Everyone would leave.
Everyone would lie.

Then he came along,
A fling, a tryst.
And she remembered all the feelings.
Everything she had missed.

But still she held fast,
to her memories and fears.
Another one down.
They all disappear.

He told her he's still there,
if she ever needs him at all.
But she's afraid she'll care again.
She just can't make the call.

But she just can't see him,
Not until she's sure.
That she isn't too attached.
Because nothing endures.

She remembers his words.
Everything he had said.
Now her heart is aching.
Not just her head.

"I'm so sorry," she whispers,
So she had actually cared.
For one of the few,
Who promised to be there.

Still, no one can change,
that much overnight.
And yes, she knows,
All along he was right.

But she hides her face,
and staggers away,
she'll face her fears,
another day.
