The Midnight Man

By Malcholm Dark

a dark rider cometh...

In our small town of Token the bell of prophecy rang
And the evil rings true in the form of a deadly gang.
As terror abounds and we are painfully driven down
A prayer is sent forth, "send deliverance to our town."
And then...
In the midnight hour, dark clouds above roll and tumble
From that fog-shrouded mountain comes a roar and rumble.
There sits a man in black leather, so deadly and cold
Upon his intrepid black serpent, unbridled and bold.

upon a chain driven serpent...

In rolling clouds of dust he comes riding in
The wail of his beast bares the absolute sin.
To that den of grief and chaos and the men he doth seek
Thoughts become focused on the atrocities he will wreak!
And then...
Deliberate and forthcoming he steps off the beast
A hunger in his eyes, a soul ready for the feast.
With a snap of his head, dust falls from his hair
He is a lion returned home, come back to his lair.

--From above comes an angel, a vengeance set free
upon a chain driven serpent he crosses our land.
--He cruises 'neath a moon-lit night, a starry sea
a dark rider cometh, call him the midnight man.

behold the angel...

A howl of dust whips at the empty street
It jumps and spirals all around his feet.
Then curls around his body--eyes aglow, deep and crimson red
A sight so profane as his hair dances wildly about his head!
And then...
One by one the gang members fall prey to the midnight man
Some go quickly, while others die slowly beneath his hand.
Until there is one left, the wicked leader Shadow Jack
Years of remembrance are calling for a major pay-back.

behold retribution...

He sails head first through a window and into the street
Jack then grovels wretchedly at the midnight mans' feet.
The beating then followed and Jack lay broken and sore
A quick snap of his back and Jack was near death's door.
And then...
At the dawn of morning we hear the black serpent's loud roar
After the cloud of dust lifted, the midnight man was no more.
At the edge of our town, to that old twisted oak tree
Shadow Jack is staked out, left hanging for all to see!

--Behold the angel with hell-fire for eyes
his vengeance unleashed upon the land.
--Behold retribution, Shadow Jack's demise
by Death himself, this the midnight man!

So where is redemption within brotherly love
as our society becomes wicked in ways we cannot understand?
A solution lies in that misted mountain above
pray to the nighted sky and a dark rider cometh...
                                    he is the midnight man!

Excellent write Dark, justice indeed prevailed that day, the midnight man kicked more ass than Walker Texas Ranger lol. Shadow Jack getting put through that window then groveling at the man's feet, a defining testament to the midnight man's bad ass factor, well done. Scholar
