Doorways

By A Life Without You

I slowly opened the door,
I took my time only to keep the wind outside
from playing its games.
The only remaining thought of her
left as soon as my feet hit the pavement.
The smell of smoke lingered in the air
as these lost and lonely souls passed me as if I was standing still.
What persuades them to move as they do?
Why do they bury their dead in gardens,
wishing for a Sunday morning bloom.
Staring forms gleam through car windows,
hoping to catch a glimpse of their future.
Tall golden bridges that will only take you to the other side
if you promise to not ask questions.
The confusion in every one's eyes only leads me to more questions.
Like why did she depart from these waters and leave no address?
Was it love that eventually lead her astray?
I too have waited for that unexpected guest.
I stopped to admire the only flower in this town.
The commotion of passing people ripped it from my hand
and joined it back to the ground.
Tread softly I say, for those peddles are my dreams.
One day these people will live again,
these bridges will fall,
these empty souls will breathe life again.
This door will open and I will step out into a whole new world.

I turn left down Madison where the wind still blows a small sense of reality into your soul.
The cracks in the side walk rise up to make my journey harder to complete.
Today I have decided to let the wind petition me into a direction that best feels fit.
Though its touch is soft,
its burden light,
I took my time to keep it from playing its games,
as I slowly opened the door.

Fantastic, I wish I could express a Sunday walk like this.... the only remaining thought of her left as soon as my feet hit the pavement... this line is going to be with me for some time... thanks

  • A former member wrote: What a great documentation of a day in your life. It was well expressed and I felt your questions as you examined and wondered about others, how they connect with you, what they are thinking, where they come from.... where to go from here... I enjoyed this. =)

Wow that was awesome. I felt like I stepped into a sci-fi movie. It was so vivid. The last verse was icing on an already delicious cake. I'm so glad you submitted this.
