Never A Dream Come True

By Malcholm Dark

See the thinning people, a skinny people
Dying at an alarming rate.
An afflicted people, like you and I people
Cut down by the hand of fate.
You search to remember who it was that had infected you
Between the blur of years and lovers only God knows who.

--Do you remember when, making love was not a sin
and the growing old was something afforded you?
--Will you remember me, when I am just a memory?
Because dying young is never a dream come true!

We await a cure which may never come
While sinking by the way-side.
As the light of hope fades away for some
We amass along their graveside.
You search to remember who it was that had infected you
It does not matter anymore, that person is dying too!

--Do you remember when, making love was not a sin
and the growing old was something afforded you?
--Will you remember me, when I am just a memory?
Because dying young is never a dream come true!

I will remember you, so young at heart and in body too...
because having AIDS is never a dream come true.

I remember when everything I thought of was a sin. That was like an hour ago. Barbiturates and Whiskey helped me to forget. My best friend died of AIDS in 91 and I'm still pissed. Fucking bastards.

Powerful write! I felt the ending coming before I knew it was about AIDS... sex is never a sin, but knowingly spreading AIDS is a terribly reprehensible act! It is slow murder without even the courtesy to look your victim in the face and let them die quickly. My heart goes out to all those who are unknowingly infected (regardless of lifestyle, because despite what the morally sanctimonious may say, no one deserves to be infected), and my rage goes out to those that willfully or carelessly spread it.

making love should never be a sin, showing another person how much they mean to you by sharing your bodies is beautiful. Aids should have no part in it but unfortunalty anything beautiful in this world is sooner or later jaded. My heart and my preyers are with all of the ones infected and the ones whos lives are touched by aids. Blessed Be

Sad yet true, I had an aunt die from aids that she contracted threw a blood transfusion in '80 giving birth to my cousin, it was just before they started to even test for it, so I can definitely relate to this, she was 33 years young...

It's sad because people who honestly believed their love was forever were victims to deceit and infidelity. Along with those who were just oblivious to the true danger...and sex was all consuming. Is this nature's way of thinning the masses? We are but another breed of mammal...left unchecked...not neutered... not spayed...to overpopulate this world with lustful drives. I cannot imagine the pain of losing someone to AIDS. I have no personal experience to draw from. But it is a loss just the same...sad. Your poem is good to bring awareness to something that doesn't hit the headlines every day like it used to.
