Sleeping

By lovechild

caught in the rafters
webs drape the ceiling
clinging there in the shadows
the hope i was feeling
here in this dusted
shutter-darkened room
spiders crawl everywhere
and i seek my tomb
a cradle was rocking
there in the pitch
an infant cry ceases
in the arms of a witch
and i burn
oh i'm burning
again at the stake
lost in this nightmare
will i never wake?

  • A former member wrote: sounded like a description of my house for a second there... I like spiders. the end rhyme was punctuating but I didn't find it overwhelming, maybe it's the mood I'm in tonight, despite the short lines. the infant stands out, the cry, the reader's left to wonder why ;) I like the repetition of burn.
