Broken Toys, Useless Dreams

Strewn across the floor
Lay pieces of myself
Shattered into a colorless
Pile of jagged shrapnel
I hesitate to pick up
Cry when my fingers
Explode with pain and blood
As broken toys, useless dreams
Shred my soul and flesh
While I attempt to put the
Shards of my life back together
But no matter how hard I try
Bleeding all over the floor
I cannot fit the pieces completely so
My spirit and mind are
Forever altered
Into a hardened, careless version
Of the soft-hearted creature I once
Appeared to be
