At last Epiphany

By veingo

I can't remember if I was 7, or 8, when I learned the word.
But I held onto the meaning.

And I waited.

I waited through grade school,
and good times.

Through high school,
and bad times.

Hunger pains,
and soreness from laughing.

There were births,
and deaths.

I got married,
and divorced.

And I waited.

And waited.

Then yesterday it all became clear.

Last night I had a dream so vivid.
Of the place I'm most comfortable.
And everyone I love was there.
Past present, and future.

And this morning the smell of sassafras
followed me everywhere I went.

'sassafras' [and 'epiphany both] have a special meaning for me.. when iw as little, i ahd a pop-up book [remember those???] which was one of my faves. the main character, Steffanie Pepper, lived in Sassafras and i thought it would be the msot eprfect place, especially when the dilapidated old house would pop up surrounded by trees. . .. .and her kite would fly into the window and force her inside. ...did i jsut ramble? oopsies~ you must have touched a soft spot in me :}

I could smell something.... dont know if it was sassafras or just the scent of some awesome ass. no really, this was very thoughtful and provocative... i like the leap and the way it calls into question the significance of sassafras...

I've heard sassafrass before? I think I had to do a leaf project in 4th grade, or second. Anywhoo, how comforting.

  • A former member wrote: it's a tree..the root is used to make root beer..that's if it's genuine root beer and not that crappy store bought variety..it's extremely fragrant and beautiful, only smelled one genuine one in my life...
