I've stopped reading my dove wrappers
and I no longer look under bottle caps
I didn't win.
You get a short quick spin on a long game board.
20 furtive graspings led to years of a turned head.
Some bloom 30 years after their mid-life crisis
and others die before their pulse quickens at all
How is it I have reached the middle of life
only to find it was I who stroked my hair as a child?
Take care of your business.
You know nothing of the world.

I enjoyed this piece very much. I like the notion of no longer reading Dove wrappers and not looking at bottle caps to see if you won...this was an interesting way to show the descent of cynicism. I think, although the last line hits hard, within it is also the hope that there MAY be some magic left, because "you know nothing of the world."
