Invisible
By Vexed
Breathing, eating, sleeping, moving
All parts of living
But it hurts intensely
To live as a shadow.
No one sees you,
Or realizes that you are there
Until one day your are missed
Because you just disappeared.
Ghosting on the edges
Of a society that doesn’t want you
But one that needs you
Without realizing it.
Hearing everything,
Contributing nothing,
Being an ear to those in need
And vanishing without a trace.
Some see you, some actually notice
But none approach
Because of the distance
Between you and them.
No one has the strength,
No one has the courage,
To penetrate the darkness
And see inside the shadow.
Loneliness creeps in, slowly
Upon the shadow
Bringing with it unbearable agony
Until emotions just shut down.
You exist on the outside,
Drifting in and out of lives,
People walking through you
And leaving nothing but footprints.
It all hurts,
Like physical pain
That can’t be eased,
You cry yourself to sleep at night.
After a while you are forgotten
And that pain hurts the most
Because once again
You are nothing to everyone.
Sleep brings the only peace,
Sleep brings the only joy,
Sleep brings the only healing,
Sleep is the only escape from torment.

So, so relatable. "To penetrate the darkness And see inside the shadow". Brilliant line in a great poem. JD

I have never came across a poet who wrote such words that described me to a T! I can relate to this piece from start to finish---word for word. You have done a wonderful job at capturing solitude and its effects on oneself. Great job! And I really mean

My favorite part is the ending. Beautiful, and completely true. Sleep is my only escape too.

thank you very much, I'm glad you understand just how much sleep means to me right now... I'm really glad that you understand the poem, it means, at least to me, that you have been where I have been and know the pain...
