Uncharted

By Temerity

The ship of life on the ocean of time

Never turns back for things left behind

Disappointed flesh, crippled dreams

Sanity slipping through fragile seams

Mixed memories fill boxes on our shelves

The cross could never save us from ourselves

Ride high on each wave and crash down again

Clinging to the certainty of where we've been

And it happens that we pass into this season

Chasing all rhymes in search of a reason

Windows & mirrors become opaque

Shrouded by each choice we make

I did not sign up for this

I did not sign up for this

... I ...

... remember ...

... innocence ...

Transparencies of truth thru the eyes of a child

Optimistic wonder in a world gone wild

For all the things we hope to keep

That which we've sown, so shall we reap

A nice reflection on the passage of time, and its affect on us in gerneral. Sometimes I hope that last line is true...others, well...I throw down the hoe...sometimes I just wonder.

This was amazing. I'll go with Butch down there...killer. Your rhyme was nearly flawless. Great flow and rhythm. Powerful words. I could quote several of these lines but suffice it to say you've done something rare with rhyme. I enjoyed it. --Jes
