The Nightmare

By Midnight Phoenix

The nightmare lay quiet
Illumination fading from its sunken eyes
The perfect accompaniment
Laying idle for the rest of time

If the devil had a heart
It would surely sink tonight
When I close my eyes, I see nothing
You're not there any more

How can something so heartless and cruel
Be so beautiful all the same
You were my pain, my suffering
And yet you were my inspiration

Now all I see is void of stars
As I look up from this piece of earth
On which you lay
And hope to find you again when I close my eyes
