Anablephobia and The Faded Stars Between Us

By Bella Butchery

Shadows on a dim one way street
We pretend we found someone
That we finally found someone
But every game must have its end

Ever special?
Nothing special?

This is a lesson on how to fall...

We speak white out lies
And massaged truths
Blank stares swell
Like waves
And tears burst

A halt to heavy shoulders

Looking down we watch our step
Anablephobia sinks our feet
Into grey silhouettes
That feels like a warm bath
frozen in a single moment

You say my imagery
Is perfect symmetry
And you think
I am filled with hate

I say your flattery
Is needless sympathy
And I think you
Are full of shit

Locked into a trance
Blocked into a silence
But somehow the void collapsed
Into itself
Like lack-luster stars
Or a day dream that blinks
In the passenger seat

Tattered nightmares leads restless sleep
Into our half in half out
That speaks volumes
As a buoyant lingering touch
Fades away like the color
From your face

but our hands are tired
from the grip,

the frost graced
our eyes,
And dew spits your lashes
Through a fatal gaze

You still are all that I dream

So please…

I would rather keep sleeping

i love the flattery line, but it's all perfect. you chose the exact words and images to describe this, like plucking thoughts from a racing mind...

    This is fantastic.

  • A former member wrote: "...a dim one way street We pretend" Love the internal rhyme (a fave free-fom style of mine). "We speak white out lies" Well, just shoot me in my Anablephobiac face! Feel like I'm falling when I'm looking up; all the buildings like bent words "Into grey

  • A former member wrote: ...silhouettes" The perfect poetry here is "half in half out" in that " Tattered nightmare_" way; tatterdemallion waves of vivid imagery, volumes, color(s). Read this poem and be prepared for that "fatal gaze" that will graze your senses like wild Waits..

just so no one has to look it up to unersand, Anablephobia = the fear of looking up

I forget who it was that said lies are what actually hold together a relationship. I really like the blunt observation regarding flattery.
