My Love (an ode to the sea)

By jack paper

Once outside on moonless night
I gazed into the sky
Taking in the stars above
Wishing I could fly

T'was then I felt a stirring come
Into my tired mind
Gone away again it went
Somewhere I could not find

Then as morning broke upon
The shadows of my cell
Louder now I heard the call
At once I knew it well!

I'd heard the ocean calling
With soft undaunting sigh
Carried on a salted breeze
That filled the azure sky

Now I knew and understood
The message softly sent
With great haste I journeyed on
And to the sea I went.

Here at last I'll stay for good
There's nowhere else for me
I've come home from far away
And with my love I'll be
