blacklists and scapegoats
By a restless wanderer
I am a proud American and a God fearing man; a uniformed soldier serving
my country. I watched the towers fall and stoog vigil waiting for the
orders to follow. I have taken an oath to help defend my fellow Americans
and uphold this great nation's values, but lately the words and deeds of
my "fellow Americans†have made me sick. It’s time for someone
to stand up and remind this country who we are fighting and why.
Many people believe we are fighting the Iraqis, the Israelis, or the Saudi
Arabians. Many believe it is the Muslim nation. Just about every one
is ready to accept any and every scapegoat that comes along. Some even
attack their own fellow Americans. I once believed this nation was one
of justice and equality; one where all people from every heritage and every
religion were equally accepted.
As a military member, I have seen first hand the effect our fear has on
us. When a soldier is deployed, that soldier is in enemy territory. He
or she never knows who the enemy is; always fears that the person walking
by is going to attack. For a deployed soldier, this is an ever present
risk that we have to accept. For an American citizen walking home from
work, it is a travesty.
The enemy we face is nothing new. A tyranny that enslaves its people,
perverts its religion, and seeks the extermination of those unlike itself.
It is an enemy that we have faced many times throughout the history of
the world; the Inquisition, the KKK, the Nazi Regime. The people we are
at war with are not Iraqis, Israelis, or Saudi Arabians and they ARE NOT
Muslims regardless of what they claim. They are an abomination of humanity
that has corrupted their religion and used the word of God as a tool of
hatred and violence.
Once again this evil has lashed out and attacked our home and our people
and once again we have risen to the challenge. For us to do any less would
have been ignorant and suicidal. Unfortunately this enemy lacks the courage
and conviction to face us in open battle. They hide and scurry and use
the people they’ve enslaved as human shields and insignificant fodder.
Now we must face them on their own ground; we have to hunt them down and
dig them out of the holes they have crawled into. This is not a task we
can do alone. This is a task that must be accepted and joined by the people
of the Middle East. For generations they have been taught that we are
an evil and sinful nation and, as of yet, we have given them little reason
to believe otherwise.
We must put aside our blacklists and scapegoats. Just as Christ embraced
the Gentiles with love and peace, we must embrace the people of the Middle
East. We have sent a military force, invaded their country, and occupied
their cities. Our enemy uses lies and fear to persuade the people to fight
against us. We have the might and the power to free the people of the
Middle East and to destroy their oppressors, but they have to be willing
to accept our help.
Those of us at home in the U.S. have to show them who we truly are. For
decades we have been the saviors and champions of the oppressed people
throughout the world. It is time for us to turn the other cheek and welcome
this new nation of victims.
The military and the soldiers abroad will take care of the enemy and the
battles. The rest of the nation now needs to remember who we are and what
this nation was founded on; peace, equality, and freedom for all people.
We must not scorn them for the lies that they have been told. We must
show them the truth; we must come together to care for these victims, embrace
them, help them, and show them the glory of freedom.
I reserve no copyright on this. Copy it, paraphrase it, reword it any
way you so choose so long as this plea is spread. We need to end this
war; we need to bring our brothers and sisters home.

Innocent people die in Every war.. does that mean we should never fight? There are things worth fighting, and killing, for. Freedom is one of them, a really good chocolate sundae is another.. -Michael
