Questioning Society...Or Am I Just a Tweaker

By Jaded Jezzabelle

I ask
why we as a society
think it nessasary
to apply labels
to everyone
An impropriety to say the least
not to mention
a bit arbitrary in reason
to issue a name
and place in a catagory
upon introduction
or before
I ask
are we all so insecure
that we must reduce
one another
to the lowest common deduction
Are we so blind
in our overly visual world
that we can't seem to find
the face behind the mask
Or are we just to lazy
to take on the task
of unwrapping the gift
I ask
as I take a drink
from the flask
of a drunk
How low do we have to sink
before we stop to think
of the damage we inflict
on eachother
I ask
as I pick apart
the welfare mother
in line at the grocery store
23 going on 30
for sure shes a whore
has 5 kids of different races
see their dirty faces
and nothing else
I ask
why we are so preoccupied
with wealth
that we'll risk everything
even our health
to obtain it
is it really all about the bling bling
When a whole generation of men
are headed down to sing sing
A prison
of a federal nature
the consequence
of a wager lost
freedom for the riches
So obsessed with excess
would never consider
digging ditches
Or understand their best friends
were snitches
I ask why employers assume
its their business
to know the kinds of drugs we do
when we're off the clock
So they collect our pee at random
and
If we should refuse
even on principal
we become invisible
a fucked up situation
that always ends
in termination
and a bottle of gin
for the boss
who had a bad day
had to fire somebody
who stood in the way of progression
A loser an obvious drug user
but had made a good impression
but would not comply
with policey
and give in to an inspection
of his urine
I ask
as I admire the new prada bag
thats on sale for 800 dollars
thru the window
of a shop
while outside a cop harasses
a homeless kid
I ask
why am I treated like a felon
when convicted of only misdemeanor crimes
and why i'm only afflicted
with poetry that rhymes
as a car full of gang members
drive along beside me
they must just want to get inside me

James Redfield. It has an intersting view on many of the questions you've asked here. Love the piece btw.

  • A former member wrote: mankind is turning in on itself; there is no cure to this cancerous existance but extinction. We don't bother with staying true to ourselves anymore; pfft it's overrated. It's what everybody else thinks that matters (burn the masses)

The flow is really good here, along with the content, it's all also very true. Nice write.

  • A former member wrote: I really like the flow of this. As to the content...we label to make us superior. To see flaw in one another so that our flaws do not seem as bad or real. We label so that we might think we see the world more clearly than it is.

  • A former member wrote: And a label is just that, a label. It neither defines or dictates who we are but who the labeler decides we are. And if that person has no want or desire to see past our plastic covers to the person we are inside,

  • A former member wrote: Then they are as simple and shallow as they seem. And we, in turn, label them as such contradicting why we first had an issue with them to begin with. It's a horrendous circle.
