Shattered

By Midnight Phoenix

I’m so scared but I’ve got nothing to hide
The brutality etches through my constant cries
Another midnight running from dawn will break
I’ll be waiting for you, I’ll be waiting ‘till I’m extinct

Note to self, don’t wander too far
I’ll be eaten alive before I reach the stars
Like running backwards into the fray
I’ll be in love with you, but lost in misery

Running from the shattered pieces
I can not let this happen
Ignore them
I can not restructure

Locked in here, cornered like a rat
I've got nowhere to run and I can't handle that
Voices call behind me in fevered shame
How do I deal with all this sulking pain

But your venom eyes won't hear my cries
I look to the window to as I begin to die
My defenses destroyed, my green eyes turn rust,
Another faded tear in this pile of absent trust

Running from the shattered pieces
I can not let this happen
Ignore them
I can not restructure
