A Friend to All

By Ortolan

support your opinion like well paid lawyer
go with the flow like air and pure water
always on time like the sun and the moon
perfectly charmed like a well carved rune

take no sides yet have everyone's back
have no  opinion and still have no lack
human like hollywood real in the flesh
nobody hates me and out with one breath

never disloyal and never dishonored
allies with all from the teacher to monger
babble a song like a river in June
brilliant and shameless and made to make you

would you suspect it's a devils disguise
would you see a man behind reflections of eyes
would you dare suspect one lie within my sea of truth
no, I am the Ubermensch, the Lucifer of youth

wise man said once upon an ancient time
one of many, friend to none, he ain't no friend of mine
sorry I can't help if I'm the best that ever lived
no attachment, no betrayal, I am the visitor hidden

thank you my friends for everything
all I ever wanted was the world
thank you all for welcoming me
the mortal day ends and I'm killed

sleep like the reaper
today was perfect
my brothers keeper
tonight will be worthless

how can I explain these things
freedom is my pedestal
there is no containing me
yet I am locked inside myself
there is no reclaiming me,
I go home, and it is my hell
I go home, and it is death's knell
I go home, and I frown til dawn
I go home, and alone til morn
I go home once again and I'm gone

So relatable... slaying the day, retiring to a sanctuary smaller than the world. Great write :)
