You Would Be Me
By Peyton1
Here I am again, not on, but between the lines I write;
It has to be said just so, for no alibi is airtight.
My existence slows to a crawl, as I'm painfully prodded along;
A description of my life? Yes, it is, one long sad song.
The song everybody listens to, but no one wants to hear;
Not one that incites joy, but would have you shed a tear.
Even though it's very painful, I must listen to every line;
For fear I might miss the part, that helps me turn back time.
An inglorious machine of sorts, and if I were time's captain ?
First thing, I'd change the kiss, the one fate never let happen.
Oh what we would give, though it'd be just another illusion;
If we could do it over again? It'd be yet one more intrusion.
What the first time needed changed, would still be wrong the second;
The end result would be no different, when comes the day to reckon.
The sands that fill the shapely glass, run out faster than we think;
Who'll be in time to get rescued? And who merely on the brink?
Go down with the ship, that's the noble thing they say;
I've DONE that, no thanks, look where I am today.
The battles I fight are tough ones, that's without a doubt;
Will I be victorious? Most likely I'll just quietly bleed out.
What is my DESTINY? That's no longer a valid word;
I used to listen intently, SILENCE was all I heard.
I suppose it had to turn out this way, EXAMPLE for all to see;
If you fought your whole life for everything, and got nothing,
YOU WOULD BE ME.

This is amazing...it seems so effortless...flowing perfectly. There is so much lost hope that spills out in these lines...so mournfully that it consumes you as you read. It's resolute and lost mingling together so well.
