The shores of Styx

By Morgoth

Looking around me,
I see everything is the same.
Night after long night
I see the same river flow languidly by.

As I toil on and on and slave away,
Only the Goddess of the Night silently observes, keeping silent vigil.
I see my time slipping past,
My night of sailing down that river draws ever closer.
I see a day in the waters...
and another...
yet another...
Joining together in a terrifyingly slow torrent.

All alone by the riverside
I see travelers both on and beside those strange waters.
Some nod, others wave and stay a while...
But at the end I am all alone beside the river Styx.

I fell like I am already in the carefree waters of her embrace,
going to my glorious Hell.
Where all of my brothers, sisters, and lovers await.
Yet I remain at the shore,
Scoring myself bloody red is all that keeps me at the shore and out...
of her seductive arms.
I had a road once...
A road that would lead me to the libraries of Athens, the armies of Sparta.
Yet as ever I squat, huddled beside the river Styx.

The nights lengthen, the wind colder and there is no lover...
To hold me tight, to warm my side and anchor me to that shore.
The days are grey, lifeless and devoid of reality.
I hope someone finds me...
Holds me and keeps me from slipping away...
Into the river Styx

I logged back in just to read and comment. I see past the personification and looked into its deep meaning. I adore you and just so you know... You are an amazingly structured individual. I mean all of this in a completely platonic way. I hope you find what you have been searching for. Bows- Scholar
