Willow Tree

By Dragonfly

He was a willow tree

his long branches shielding me

from the judging sun.

Strong as an oak,

but he swayed in the wind

as his comrades slowly began to chop his roots.

Then one day he fell

and I faced the sun for the first time

in a long time

And his tangled limbs of branches

as he lied down in a mess

then I became his willow tree

I shield him from the rest

I promised to be his Willow Tree

standing above his grave

But even as a Willow Tree I slowly gave away

Now with that bullet

he rests in my arms

I'll be his willow protect him from harm

Sorry about your friend, sounds like his buddies pulled the rug out from under him? Good simile going on here, thanks.
