The extermination begins.

By SleepingDead

I breathe in the mist
I walk the streets of town
The lights don't shine
Since there's no one around
Abandoned houses
Sit on every street
Crashed cars litter the road
Under my feet
I feel their eyes on me
The further I roam
My heart starts racing
I know I'm not alone
I hear their footsteps behind me
Down the dark streets, I run
I hope morning comes soon
They always disappear in the morning sun
I make it to the outskirts of town
The footsteps disappear
The stares break away
And I know they aren't here
I turn towards my town
As it burst into flames
It has begun
The extermination is all the same
In every town
In every city
They come and they go
But they have no pity
All the destructions
I have lived to see
Makes me wonder
When they'll catch up with me
I turn my back
I don't wish to see anymore
I leave the depressing inferno behind
No less blinder than I was before
Smoke poisons my lungs
Ashes fall into my eyes
But the tears never come
And this comes as no surprise

I call it "the Neanderthal conflagrations" and you could be correct in your future dark prophecy, and by our own hands.
