Shepherds and Wolves

By Meadowhawk

Whispered secrets
from the lips
of weeping prophets
Drifting
from the seat of heaven
only to fall
on unwilling ears

Shards
of broken wisdom
Fragments
of paled dreams
Cast to the winds
by indifference
Then buried
by the sands of ignorance

Collard con men
braying new scripture
beckon the faithful
with plastic smiles
Grinning inward
through salt less tears
As the pious
bow their heads
and pray on bended knee

So the deluded
sheep are shorn
pining for a rapture
their eyes
will never see
Led by wolves
bedecked in vestments
Beating bibles
devoid of truth

While far above
a final curtain falls
A last tearĀ
silently trickles
And a forsaken shepherd
fades away

Your words always convey messages in such a visual manner. I agree with Ains, people tend to abuse faith, perhaps they feel their actions have no right to be questioned under such a guise? Write on. Scholar

  • A former member wrote: well wrought metaphor... developed with all the sensitivity to symbolism that a poem could develop. Sometimes I wonder if anyone has any respect for the word anymore... as so many simply throw them around like broken toys... well done, and thank you for the vision. Scholar
