life: the leftovers

By not an addict

 on days like these
when everything is static
and i can pick apart
the stale predictability
like some old pro junkie
scraping the inside of a baggy
for one more hit

i have to wonder

if my spot-on memory
of all those chemically-induced
techno colour states
is a blessing or a curse
if there's ever a point
where the shit i learned
in my "other life"
will be relevant to "real life"

and how many fucking years
i'll have to go clean
before i stop feeling
like just another druggy.

I'm also a recovering addict. I enjoyed this because it's hard to not feel shame for our past experiences, and I can relate. But, I let the shame become my motive. Some people never come out of it. Let that be your reminder. Thank you for sharing. :)

yes, the shit you learn from your 'other life' does eventually become relevant to your 'real life.' but the blending requires practiced patience and a bit of aggressiveness (because you still have to go against the masses). love this one !
