PRIMAL

By Leith Plunkett

I dare not cage these feelings within a single word
To the earth I place my sword
my chain

My chest naked against candle flicker
pounding mortality into the still of night

On my knee
I pledge eternal allegiance
surrendering only to you
beneath sheets of white
