Last Night

By Dianas_Eclipse

I slept in your arms last night.
I slept, protected and loved in your embrace,
lulled by the steady rhythm of your heartbeat
my new favourite song;
breathing in the scent that I cherish above all others
fresh and inviting and masculine and so uniquely you.
I slept, warm under the blanket that I made for you,
inwardly weeping at your nocturnal beauty
immaculate and serene in slumber.
I traced the contours of your face with my fingertips,
infusing all of my love in the barest of touches,
marveled at how wonderfully soft your hair is
and placed a gossamer kiss upon your lips
before the tide of sleep took me.
This morning we both woke in different beds,
separated by too many miles
and feeling the shadow of the temporary loneliness of reality
sink back into place.
But
in the back of our minds
and the part of our hearts that have somehow linked,
we also know the truth:
I slept in your arms last night.
