They'll Both Sleep Alone Tonight

By Withering petals

Death on top of fire breathing hills
The flames of a thirsty heart below

* * * *

Snow covered ice caps in the mountains
Of Hopeless faith

* * * *

Returning from a journey of endless shame
Or a shameless journey of endlessness

Will He still want me?

* * * *

Free falling from the air of nothingness
In a speechless frenzy of blind fits of
Anger
Love
Desperation
And humility

****

Undying loyalty in fits of treacherous treason
An unsung lullaby to a memory of an infant waiting to die

Here I am

Help me open my eyes

* * * *

No one answers a call in the night
Except for the screeching echoes
That resound in an empty forest
Deep within the darkness

There is no return

* * * *

She comes back and here she is
Hopelessly fraught with grief and guilt
In a tavern of the unwanted wounded
She sits in a corner and reveals her raw bare flesh
To the only one who can see in the dark
He can breathe in her light

And the room is left empty and black

* * * *

A child returns from the well with nothing but a bucket of snakes

The heart of darkness is merciless

“We Leave No Survivors”

But Dear God I Love him

* * * *

Tiptoeing in a skating ring around a tree adorned for the Heavens
The Devil bears gifts for the heart broken
And Santa forgot my shoulder to cry on

The Man in the Dark won’t come back

I’ll stay home this season

She’ll wait for an angel with wings – one who doesn’t fear the light

* * * *

He stumbles in the darkness reaching out for a hand to weary too reach out for his

He knows not what he’s done

Given away the only light he had

He loved her – and She him
The light engulfed the darkness

And The Darkness swallowed the light

They’ll both sleep alone tonight.
