But I'm confused.

Don't want to conform, left behind either.

Tradition. Empirical Measure. The Standard Bearer.
The quantity of the punishment - the depravity of pleasure...

I know what you don't want to hear - starvation, recession, war, pestilence, disease and fear...

The universe is a complex, random, dangerous place, and you're all up in it -
Tossed adrift and out to Sea....

At the lowest possible cost, I set your squirming, anxiously addled minds at ease.

Security and Predictability. Institution. Ritual. Moral Piety.

And only now do you wonder what was the final cost?

That sucking sound?
That was your autonomy you lost.

But worry you not a jot, no need to thank me with yet more conformity.
I have all the authority of the silent majority.
