Calendays Apart Impart No Respite

By DIATRICUS

Off the cuff
Through the will
Digest the moment

The distance substantial
Definitely not preferential
Though no torment involved - just a small degree
of misery, a step above complacency

Apart for over a decade, close to two
But who's counting? I don't - do you?

So here we are in the present
Or am I dreaming of what might have been or what could be?
No more safe sentiment
A rather sullen sediment, a sickly recipe for another
awkward moment

Our embrace is not unkind
I suckle your sweetness, and apologize
For the bite marks I left
on your behind
[Hmm... perhaps scratch that and rewind - ah, hell! never mind]
And back to the moment
Or did that escape you
Are you suddenly distracted by that
Last tangent, a fragment, not quite
Found, not quite lost upon another solemn silence

And the gaze becomes a fire
Just as quickly quelled
By the acute sincerity
Reminiscient clarity
Of all those years apart, when it could have been
Otherwise
Were we not the wiser, were we not less kind

So I take the time to ponder
The mind, it loves to wander
Until I come upon the solution timely
A little deranged, quite sublimely
On the desktop, below the PC disarray
You'll note with no dismay
Our access to the perfect device
A calendar would suit our vice
Quite nicely

With a caress you ask the theme
Of my calculation to start the dream
And I answer with wit and no deflection
To the cause of our newfound perfection
Stop shift break point

Pick a day when apart were we
I say, curtly, just above a whisper
Pull it out from our loss in time together
Capture that moment, hold onto its essence
The day, the month, the year - it's special
We'll fuck that one till it's long seared into our memory

Then simply pick another

One parts Poe, two parts modern vernacular, modern insight. But it's the message that caught me in the sternum. Thanks for this. Write on.

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey that this piece took me on. It reminded me of relationships past and nostalgic moments lost in the sands of time but are still vital parts of my identity and imprints on my soul...And for no other reasons they were just moments in time, like tears lost in the rain... And the ass biting intermission was awesome by the way!
