Tonights Main Event: Mom vs. The Fan of Doom

By lstdarkness

Nan was baking peanut butter cookies,
They smelled delicious.
In the next room Pap watching Red Skeleton
leaned back in his recliner.

I sat on the yellow tile of the kitchen floor,
adding the finishing touches to my masterpiece
of crayola. Are the cookies done yet? As I hop
up to see the timer. Only three minutes to go.

The heat from the oven and
the hot August night made our skin sticky.
Pap's old coon hound Blue sat in the corner of
the room panting. His bright pink tongue almost
dragging the floor. The ceiling fan whirled around and
around so fast it was shaking. It was mocking us, keeping
the air for itself.

No air was circulating though. A switch above
the blades needed to be flicked so the blades
would reverse their path and send us the
relief we desperately needed. Pap said.

'I'll fix it' as mom hopped onto
onto a dark wooden chair she was sitting on.
She stretches around the blades.
She only needs to be a little closer...

She raises just a little to far her head nearing the fan.
THUMP!
The fan blades hits her in the head.

She staggers a little but raises again fully determined to win the fight.
THUMP!
The second blade hits her in the same spot.

Confused and not knowing what to do she rises to regain balance.
THUMP!
The third blade comes throwing one last
mighty haymaker.
The one two thee combination took her off the chair.
She landed in the corner about a foot away.
Her eyes glazed over looked like marbles, Nan sceamed as
Pap ran to her side. Lifted her head by her hair.
1,
A lump of fluid forms over her left eye.
2,3,
She is not responding.
4, 5, 6,
Knocked out.
7, 8, 9,
The blades spin in victory.
10, The timer on the oven buzzed.

Bob and weave. You gotta bob and weave. It's a rookie mistake. Just hate to see it.

...pending this was a true story, when she comes to, she's probably going to kill you for publicizing it; disregarding that, though, way to tell it in such a manner; I'm vaguely reminded of the ceiling fan scene in Scary Movie 3... Scholar
