As Black as the Night With Some Stars

She was indeed as black
As the night with some stars
Shining through the darkness.
Her black fur silky smooth,
Eyes bright yellow and wide
With pupils so deep and wise.
Claws like razors that leave
Forlorn scars or used to bring in
Your hand to pet her.
Agile like an acrobat all the while
As clumsy as a newborn calf.
Playful and full of enough energy
To power a star for many a year.
Yet lazy and slow like a sloth
That traveled a branch a day.
A tail as long as she needed it
To be to help curl around your
Legs as she passed through.
And a pur that could put Earthquakes
To shame.

Her name was Morticia and she was
All of those things and more.
She was more than just a feline
Companion.
She was a part of me that kept me
Grounded and sane (for the most part).
She was my little sidekick through whatever
Shit life had to throw at us.
That is until recently.

She became very ill out of nowhere,
Just a day after my surgery.
I rushed home as soon as I could
To be with her.
I never seen her so...hurt.
So in pain.
My heart shattered instantly.
I tried calling and emailing
Everywhere but
No vet would take her in and accept
Some sort of payment plan.

July 31st, while I was sleeping,
She passed away.
She was just shy of six years old.
Whatever pain I ever felt physically
Or emotionally could not prepare me
For the world of despair I fell into.

With the help and support of my
Older sister,
My best friend since I was 12,
And my amazing girlfriend,
I am slowly climbing back
Out of this abyss.
It will take time and I will always love
Morticia like she never left.
