take pictures of a pretty girl
By tallygrowsome
i'll point the camera at her, and she jumps
almost an inch from the lens
so eager for proof that she's alive, has attention
a sign that she's wonderful.
and she is, you know. she's five,
they haven't learnt about flaws yet
it's all a-b-c-come-play-with-me.
but in maybe
ten years or so,
the gap between her and the lens
will
widen.
like a hole.
and she'll cover her hands with her face
if i'm in a room with a camera,
scolding me for the way her nose sits on her face,
and other items on an impossible inventory
someone must have handed to her
when my back was turned,
wiping her foggy breath from
the lens.

Author's Note:
I like photography (a lot) so I tend to have a camera glued to my hands quite often. The older people are, the more scared they are of me snapping a picture. The media's influence on self-esteem is scary.Awards

...it's a little sneaky but a lot of fun when you snap them by surprise...

This is beautiful... people become too self conscious as they grow older... vanity takes over, and the fun gets taken out of picture taking. nicely written xoxo

This is so beautiful and honest. It's true the media has set these ideals of beauty in people's minds. Fat, skinny, tall, short these things should not matter but sadly they do. Very touching piece. I loved it.

Everybody wants their 15 minutes TGS and it was way cool to say her face covered her hands (in contrast to the oldsters). Most perceptive and speaks volumes to me, thanks!
