If There's One Thing You Remember...

By lordshadow

You've twisted, tainted all the memories I have of you
You've taken all your honesty and made it so untrue
You've changed my world forever, you just never knew the cost
I can't afford to stay here, knowing always that I'm lost

I can still detect the smoothness on my calloused skin
An infinite reminder of where that ring had been
My finger traces absently along the shallow scar
I knew that you were gone, but I just didn't know how far

I wept for many days and at night I searched for sleep
Praying every minute you were there to see me weep
That you could feel a fraction of this pain that never dies
That I could see a tiny bit of trauma in your eyes

That you could be familiar with this feeling of despair
Or the bile rising in my throat each time I know he's there
Sitting right beside you while we're yelling on the phone
Complacently replacing me, and now I'm all alone

I just can't take this anymore, I wish this wasn't real
I traded you my heart for yours, I thought we had a deal
I do believe you have no soul, I know you have no heart
You stole the life we built and then you ripped it all apart

You played me like I made you, like a sick sadistic game
And I just want you to remember that I'll never be the same
