Tall Cows

By johntaiyu

We lived in a farm house
on a Brown Swiss dairy farm.

Those cows
were as tall as me.

There were pigs too,
and my dog
took a chicken just for fun
every few days,
when no one
was looking.

We took mattresses
from the place I lived before,
when the landlord wasn't around,
and smoked pot every night
under summer clouds.

But it wasn't heaven,
not with all the fighting
and how the other folks
we lived with took it
when I got my own place
two months later,

like somehow
it's not allowed
moving on
when the fit wasn't right.

Me and Mary,
we figured that out
and took our stolen mattress with us
when we left.

That was a bad thing,
apparently,
because the next night
all hell broke loose

and it wasn't until
I mentioned the marijuana garden
they had out by the well
that stuff finally
settled down.

They sure were tall cows
though.

=) I thoroughly enjoyed this, with its lightness of touch and those last lines left me grinning from ear-to-ear. -Carl
