donning my armor against the horrors of life

By Winter Born

Darkness invades me,
My inner eye snaps shut; Blind.
Laughter, happiness,
Impervious to these things.
My armor is on.

Like a robot now.
Actions completed quickly
Thinking fast; Mind free.
My emotions are asleep.
Pain, a memory.

The strength to go on.
The loss is Justified, right?
The armor blocks pain
Just as it blocks everything
Why should I feel this?

this left me feeling hollow and a bit sad...i can understand how this could be helpful to someone in your position, you have to deal with so much, but i cant help but think when we shut down we shut out all the good things too...
