OverUsed.Forevers

By K_Love

We we’re high.
Next to wooden docks and paint scraped guardrails.
Fog dancing over reused bridges.

And I swear I lost you in front of me.
As you blew out smoke pointing to the water.
As rain fell on your hair.

It fell down like wood crumbles to ashes.
And as everything drifted down a cloudy stream.
The pain inside a trembling heart let go.

Let go.

I tasted raindrops on my arms and I was covered with winter.
While feeling anything but snow.
I ran in loose shoes trying to be something.

And I never fell on wet concrete.
Even after jumping over loose gravel in the railroad tracks.
Too determined to try to reach a destination that I’ve been waiting to get to for so long.

So long.

You took a picture of pitter-patter as I stood there shaking.
Wishing you’d kiss lips of a former love and only taste me.
But I was too busy focusing on the clouds crying.

While trying to hold your hand in the middle of a rainstorm.
In the earliest of January.
Wondering why I couldn’t feel snow.

You inhaled intoxication like it was your next breathe.
Like anything that you breathed in that moment didn’t matter.
As long as my hand and heart would be waiting.

On a paint chipping guardrail next to a burned out cigarette.

I tried to listen to your words as they we’re caught in the thumping of the rain.
But all I could hear was every word hit concrete.
Like I love you couldn’t touch lips that felt used for so long.

And you kissed me in the rain that day.
And everything felt perfect.
Perfect.

And it’s been a while since seeing the world fall apart.
But knowing I’m still glued at the .heart. together.
Made me smile and know that this

is how it should be.
