. .Etched. .Perfection. .

I see you standing at the bridge some days
Holding onto that rail like it was all life ever had to offer you
I used to watch you from a distant as I pretended to look at the empty
spaces in the windows
But these days I seem to find myself twirling my hair and wondering when
you’ll notice me.
You never said too much to the sky.
And your lips never muttered anything to the river either.
You just smiled.
Like thank you was all that you could ever say.
A bright shimmer in your eyes lit up my whole world.
Even if you couldn’t find a reason to reignite your own.
You walked by me a couple of times with your hands in your pocket
I looked down to the concrete pretending I was memorizing how many cracks
were in the sidewalk.
I felt you smile although my hair was falling in my face
You always threw a yellow sheet of paper away as if anything you wrote
wasn’t of any importance.
But I always wanted to read your lines.
Secretly wishing to touch my ballpoint pen with yours.
Feel black on blue.
Bleeding into straight red lines.
I guess you caught me staring as I sat on the wooden bench
I didn’t bother to stare at the cracked windows in the abandoned buildings.
When I felt that I was already looking at one.
You caught my hand with your shaking fingers slipping a note between the
creases
And your lips curved upward as you walked away.
I stared at the yellow note as I caressed the same railing that held you
so tightly
Placing ever finger on every word.
“I’ve tried to write you a note everyday as I watched you stare blankly
into shattered glass.
Realizing that even if I took every piece of me to fix every empty hole,
I could never make it into anything beautiful.”
And as I lifted my fingers
Feeling over something engraved
I saw two perfectly carved buildings with pretty stained glass.
Staring at the river, holding onto the railing.
And I smiled.
Feeling black on blue.
Bleeding into straight red lines.
You never came back as I waited for you
And now I only find myself staring at your perfect etch.
Re-reading your note.
Trying to find any secret code that says “goodbye, or see you soon.”
Looking for some conclusion, for an ending solution
Just so your carved everything, could some day mean nothing.

This is amazingly written. It's heartbreaking and beautiful..yes it could've ended on a positive note, but this way leaves a louder impression, has a greater effect..thank you for sharing.

this was also very nice.no matter how beautiful a write you make you always wish to ed with pessimism. without that last line, "just so your carved everything could someday mean nothing." the conclusion would have been optimistic. why force the change?

"You never said too much to the sky." Goodness gracious...I can't find the words...you've left me grappling for the right things to say, even while they fall from my mind like broken leaves...gorgeous...fave. ~*Beth*~
