Lost Muse

By Vexed

Stuck on anticipation
Waiting for the day
When love is no longer a deception
Of the words I portray

Hurting through space and time
On wings of crystal glass
Over countless mountains I climb
Searching for that elusive bit of inspiration,

You come to me at night
When I am deep within dream
But your face is a sight
Never to be seen.

My heart runs deep
It could reach the ocean floor
With you I would creep
Till you kicked me out the door

Blinded by the darkness
Deafened by the silence
Stumbling through these empty streets
Hopelessly forgotten.

Contestation reins throughout my heart,
Fiery anger against deepest sorrow,
Never seeing the light on the horizon,
Just out of reach but never out of sight.

Nothing is forever
This rings so true
Now I am stuck searching
For another muse that once was you.

Drowning in this desert
Searching for the oasis
That you had led me from
Hoping to start anew.

Slowly fading back
To who I used to be
No one to pick up the slack
All I am now is me

Twisting in the gentle breeze
Of forgotten sighs of love
Each sound of the whispering wind
Piercing me like ravenous knives.

And so the story goes
Of living and of love
one day I will find
the one sent for me from above.
