Having been
of the view
that
love
is an easy commodity
to acquire,
historically speaking
I have always
been
a
very good
boyfriend.

That is to say,
a better boyfriend
than
a husband.

because
what I always took
for love
was instead
something else.

That something else
had to do with
the foolish conviction
that in
the you

there was
utter
and complete
salvation
from suffering,
an idea
that in all cases

that we were,
to a bitter end.

I sought

you were supposed to
give
doesn't mean
I wasn't
deeply
in
love
with
every
one
of
you.

you did
