Elmira

By Roxxi

Elmira should have killed me

Smashed my head against the bars,
Withdrawing had me screaming in the night

Gnawed my fingernails for breakfast,
Wondering who spat in my food

Cold showers greet me like a friend,
Waiting to be attacked while nude

Playing poker for a bag of chips,
Winning and losing my treats

Sitting by myself in confinement,
Watching the metal door open loudly

Elmira should have killed me
