The Ritual
By From_Ashes
Is this illusion? Is it even real?
Is this my demon's voice, or really how I feel?
I can't distinguish, that voice from my own
It must extinguish, lest I will become:
An aimless hunter looking for a kill
A mindless wanderer searching for a thrill
A weary traveler praying for a feast
A broken junkie dying for release
A moment alone, the ritual begins
A life of misplaced love, this devil's closest friend
In the blink of an eye, the pain is flushed away
If you blink that same eye, my soul- a shell decayed
I've been here before and I'll return before too long
The instruments may change but it's always the same song
What I thought was the fall, I've learned is just the fix
But this can't be the fix, when the problem is I exist
I chew on the flames, but fail to turn and run
I knew how this ends before it had begun
I can never tell if I'm running to or from
But my will's not enough, and now I have become
An aimless hunter looking for a kill
A mindless wanderer searching for a thrill
A weary traveler praying for a feast
A broken junkie dying for release

This is what love does, you can see all the signs and still can't heed them. Nice piece

The inner back and forth conflict here was great and you layed it out very nicely. "In the blink of an eye, the pain is flushed away, If you blink that same eye, my soul - a shell decayed" really struck a chord in me. I enjoyed the flow and the content, thought this was well done. Thank you for sharing!
