21st Century Vampire
By Loserland
The tomb was reopened last night by a band of plundering pranksters in
search of a good scare.
It has been six centuries since the last resurrection, a long nap.
My tongue was raw and dry from the want of fresh blood.
I arose instantly and fed my appetite with the fluid of the terrified teens.
Converting them into demons was the least I could do to repay them for
their trouble of relieving me from bondage.
I flew out the window of my castle, which has now been renovated, and breathed
in the invigorating evil air.
I called forth my militant minions that promote my reign throughout the
unholy night. I hovered over
a nearby town only to notice that the scenery has drastically transformed
into enchanting mechanical temples.
I do not relate to this strange new culture.
I paused for enough time to make an elderly couple victims of my never-ending
curse.
Then at the corner of the alley, I glared upon a shadowy image.
As I drew closer, the silhouette became an elegant young mistress who stood
frozen from shock.
My instinct was to make her my prey, yet something inside prevailed and
forced me to let her be.
Vanishing before her startled eyes, I explored the streets and claimed
three more bodies before I felt the moon’s pull wearing off.
I returned to my beloved castle where I commenced my usual period of rest
until a loud disturbing noise pierced through my coffin’s tranquility.
This repeated sound became quite annoying.
Finally, I thrust up from my broken slumber to investigate this nuisance.
My servant informed me it was a telephone, a modern device of which I was
unfamiliar.
Staying in my dungeon to avoid the light, I ordered my henchmen to bring
me various objects and oddities of the new world.
I inspected them carefully and wondered of their importance toward human
life.
Time consuming I supposed was the purpose for the synthetic items.
How would the mortals cope if they were given eternal life?
to watch everyone else being brought to life and then die while the world
keeps spinning and the days continue to churn.
At dusk I left on foot to gather more food.
Unbeknownst to me, I was being watched and videotaped and then followed
back to my humble rat-infested home.
Now I sit on my throne and await the battle between the divided sides of
clean and disgust.
From my window I viewed the hungry courageous crowd below in a flaming
arc circle around the castle.
The flames were actually flashlights and lighters.
They were armed with stainless steel stakes, laboratory grown garlic, bottled
holy water and other dead killing equipment.
They will chide me soon.
Then I saw a face standing out in the angry raving crowd.
It was the young lady whose life I spared the night before.
I knew I should have sunk my teeth in her when I had the chance.

I love ironic twists. That was wonderful. Reminds me of a line by Savage Garden "Forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness." -Elizabeth
