Hello Darkness
By midnights voice
Hello darkness he comes again
His fist clenched tight around
the stick and stem
He is angry but he knows not why
All he wants is to hear
me cry
And the sound of the whip on flesh
is burned into my ears
and on oozing mesh
For what was I guilty of this time
It doesn't matter he says
you never mind
His fist up against my eye
Gut punched so hard
I couldn't cry
Slapped as hard because
it felt so good
A broken arm because I never
understood
All the while his anger bleeds on me
On the ground his boot
Has it's way against my knee
And the end never comes
before daylight
Not until I understand all his might
And I'm left alone
in fear
And silence
