dead by sunrise

By Candy Cain

today he died
he died today
i never could've thought
you'd go that way

(I thought you'd live forever)

an echo keeps creeping
where there used to be song
i can't believe this
you left us all

(i thought you'd live forever)

how many happy memories
have you hung through one noose
plus
some of my fondest to boot?

as long as i've loved music
your voice was there since
through thin through thick
it stuck with me and i stuck with it

hes dead
hes dead
hes dead
i want to throw up the more i hear it in my head

i cried today
today i cried
i wish you'd carried on
along the ride

(i'll make sure you live forever)

in the end
i hope you found somewhere you belong
crawling one step closer
must've drove you to faint
bleeding out, digging deeper
but you got lost in the echo, the little things give you away.
but don't you see?
the little things give you a way
this didn't have to be your final masquerade.
you gave me a place for my head
when i thought i was forgotten
you filled the empty spaces
when i was waiting for the end
the shadow of the day
you left over this castle of glass
makes me remember what you've done
and leave out all the rest.

im sorry it was so heavy
im sorry you felt like you were talking to yourself
i'm sorry you felt invisible
i'm sorry for now.
you were my battle symphony
saving me from sharp edges
i thought you'd live forever
i wasn't even halfway right.
but you are more than one more light.
good night

I picture Chesterfield Bennington , lead singer of Linkin Park in this work . But it could be so many more . Their ups and downs are what atracts us to them . It was more than they could bear .

Sad... Very sad. And beautiful. "an echo keeps creeping where there used to be song"... That is a brilliant line in a poem. So well done. Thank you. JD
