Stand Still Inside

By Melankolia

I closed my eyes today
Full to bursting with the weight of Man.
Another day of senseless strife
Within this homeworld strange.

Epitaphs of former friendships
Beckon with curling wraiths
Fingers bled with wreaths and rivers,
Tears of a former saint.

Though I am a thousand years past,
A thousand years in future stay.
A star-flung voyage from Purgatory's edge,
Key of the bottomless pit have I...

Wreck and ruin on horizon's cusp
The spiral ravel fled
Distant shore now comes in focus
Eyes seeing what once was dead.

Shall we be this way forever?
Shall we breach the mortal ring?
Becoming at once as like the others,
Dead and waste and poisoned ground.

You see this as you want to see,
Standing still inside.
Feeling trace of an eternal Age,
That which truly lives may never die...
