Fortuna!
By FadedBlues
(inspired by ‘O Fortuna’ Carl Orff)
Call her Empress
Call her Goddess
She is vague as the moon in the giving & taking of luck
Tempter of men
Betraying their women
To gamble their gold & honor & love on the turn of a card
The wheel spinning
The neon scorning
I’m drunk at the tables & betting the limit, dancing girls flirting
Flare-burst of lightning
Drum-beat of thunder
The derelict storm rushes the gutter I’m tossed in, fallen desolate gambler
Humble and ragged
I stand at her door
With tears in her eyes & gentle of hand she draws me inside to the fire
I pray a last prayer
To the goddess Fortuna
Despise me as vagrant & scandalous lover but hear my plea –
don’t take her away from me

It takes a strong person to not be tempted, especially with alcohol on board...it's a time where one separates the men from the boys. One moment of pleasure can cause a lifetime of heartache. Beautifully written.

Misfortune through the tempt towards a fools gold. It is this ill fate, that frightens me more than any demon, any tragedy, any imminent danger thrust at the chafe of a sword,
