The Price
By Leineco
I saw her again today.
A fleeting glimpse
of wind tossed hair
and lithesome limbs,
just beyond my reach.
I thought that I had lost her
when youth’s exuberance
yielded to convention;
sacrificed to avarice
frivolity and freedom.
I remember well
her abandon; her recklessness
racing along that path
of willful independence
I never could quite navigate,
checked by moderation’s reins.
I see her now and then,
slipping between the bars
of my self-made gilded cage;
chasing after bartered dreams
and wonder if I’ll ever feel
so vital and alive again.

Consider this a third gratefulness to discovery... This reminds me of an old Nick Cave song.. "I found her on a night of fire and noise. Wild bells rang in a wild sky... I knew before I met her that I would lose her..." I feel connected to this piece as a woman that races towards freedom and sometimes-thoughtlessness of safety. Thank you.

Glad I saw this one! This is a wonderful piece! "I thought that I had lost her when youth’s exuberance yielded to convention;"...a face came to mind when I read that... I decided to "unyield" in my own case, and, although that particular face will remain a memory...I did not make the mistake again. : ) Great, attainable piece! Ciao, T/S

...great write, glad I found this. chasing that elusive beauty, that would make our tenuous existence substantial. like trying to harness the wind...
