A caged muse

By maxstrife

I am afraid
I need not know why
the answer’s inside.
I am terrified

What if my inspiration
Goes away
never to return
After this day
I think I will cry
I think I will die.

I am not too cute
I am not too smart
but what if there will never be
another poem to come from me.

I love to write
to express with insight
To make it rhyme
Even when it does not same time

before I could write
there was no hint of light
Only darkness, Eternal night
I could not express
The words in my heart
I could not make a story
or words of Art

The eternal well
It’s not just a hollow shell
it’s not just a well of Hell
but it’s a cage that takes my muse away
it locks her away
in a place of doubt
in a place of no light
in a place she suffocates with endless night.

I once wondered
if all would be ok
To my dismay it seems
That the muse has left
That she has gone away
That nothing is ok

Author's Note:

i have this fear, that once i write something good, i will never be able to write anything like it ever again, the last 2 paragraphs is a reference to my poem Well of Hell, but yeah this poem symbolizes my fear of loosing my muse for good.

I have this same fear but after being apart of this site for over a year and a half I rarely get this fear anymore. I write, I read and I experience life as much as I can, it helps to keep you fresh.

...read as much poetry as you can, get familiar w/it, stay open to nature & new experiences, & the poem will come. it will always come...

Writing comes from emotions, unless you stop feeling, then the most you should suffer is writers block. I have been writing for over 30 years and that is one fear I have never had.....Our thoughts can become self fulfilling prophecy's.... Just let it flow...nicely penned and expressed..pen on.

thanks, writing comes from emotion, a lot of the time i just feel horrible and if i dont feel that than there is nothing and then there is no muse which is just as bad.

  • A former member wrote: I haven't written in a very long time. It seems i can only write when I have a strong surge of emotion but the stuff that comes out of that is beautiful to me no matter how terrible it might be. It doesn't matter what other people feel about your work. It's your work and you're the only one that has to like it :) This is beautiful and very aw inspiring.

thank you that means a lot to me, writing is the only thing i have the only thing that keeps me going i don't know what i would do without it.

  • A former member wrote: I understand your fears well. As they are mine as well, great rhymes carrying with them fearful emotion, it gets your point across very well.
