Dancing bones

By cadymae

I've looked behind the tapestries.

I kept thinking there must be something behind them.

More True.         More Genuine.          More Real.

But imagining it to be so doesn't make it true.

Once you flip the posters to see the one behind,
You realize what you just flipped was a poster.
And what is behind is simply more posters.

Til at the very end what you see is the metal framework
which holds it all up to be seen.
The skeleton behind the flesh that was painted to look pretty.

I am not jaded, nor cynical, nor nihilistic.
I merely refuse to repeat your stories about my bones.
They stand within their costuming flesh.  That is the only truth.
My bones stand up.  For right now.

One day they will be lying down.
And no gazer will be able to discern the stories that kept my bones dancing.
