A Thud by Three

By silentninja

Who say you at this unearthly hour?

The air lies still

A cold whisper then gasps

Tinkling upon a shudder

A thud by three

Can be heard by thee

“Who can this be?

It must not be for me”

Striking within a dark whisper

The candle ignites

The room alights

For a knock at this time of night

A Thud by four

Rattling against my door

My visitor must be requiring me for sure

So in haste I rise

With a glazed expression upon my eye

I venture before the thud of five

To see why this racket is still alive

I then venture up to the choking lock

Whilst tapping the loose of my garment frock

I forbid entry to anyone who knocks

The telephone rings giving me a shock

“Hello, is anyone there?”

I whisper seeing a silhouette in my chair

I’m embarrassed as I am almost bare

I turn on the light, to see my blanket is sitting there

I breathe quickly knowing I am now alone

The crisp chill of the air shivers me to the bone

I then awake to the alarming sound

I dislike the annoying tone

My eyes shudder to hear a thud by three…
